samjjana (pronounced 'sum-ya-na) is Sanskrit, meaning 'a ceremony for harmony, consciousness and unanimity'.

samjjana has freshly arrived on the Sacred/ambient music scene in Australia, after having formed in early 2009 and focused on performances and recording in Costa Rica during their year overseas. In September 2009, Maia and Sahayak returned to the Sunshine Coast (Qld) and are now creating ripples in Australia...

In order to be able to take our music more actively to those who are unable to come to us (hospices, incapacitated, detained, etc.) we are seeking an alliance with a Not-For-Profit organisation for 'Project Musical Alchemy'.

We are also seeking to rent a large residential property or purpose-built facility for our 'Harmony House' vision.

We would also like to purchase a basic, mechanically sound, secondhand van for our ever-increasing musical travels. Love to hear of any vans, LPG a bonus! (Diesel unsuitable). Any responses welcome.

Our CDs, 'Gently Now' and 'Elixir' have been selling really well and already we have had to re-order. We've been receiving lovely feedback, and it also gladens us to know that our music is being played in alternative therapy practices, yoga studios, meditation centres, child care and aged care facilities, orphanages, mental health facilities, funeral parlours, operating theatres and birthing rooms.

Between our regular performing at the markets (Eumundi Square) every week and travelling for Expo's, festivals and concerts, we've been quite busy! A worthy mention is the 'Harmony for Haiti' fundraiser concert we participated in at Bellbunya Eco-Conference Centre and Sustainable Community on 12 February, where over $3000 was raised!

The follow-on Haiti fundraiser is a workshop day, also at Bellbunya (10 minutes west of Eumundi, Sunshine Coast), where (among lots of great workshops on offer at low cost) we are offering a 'Musical Alchemy' workshop on Sunday 14 March. We'll also be performing at the Upfront Club in Maleny on Friday 19 March, then on March 20 Maia will be participating musically in one of Shantimayi's 'Sacred Cirles' (10 evening events on the Sunshine Coast as part of her Australian tour).

March culminates in a trip to Perth for the New Earth Festival 26-28 March. One of the highlights of this festival for us is the privilege of performing as the support act for Sacred Earth in the Saturday night Sacred Sound Concert. We just love Prem and Jethro's beautiful, soulful music, which we've been listening to for years. (We took their CD 'The Journey Home' with us on our overseas travels to play to everybody!)
