samjjana performances offer music, but there is music and there is music! If you would like some insight into our approach to music compared with the mainstream approach, Maia shares her perspective.
structured vs. free form Sahayak also plays a Chinese bamboo Xiao flute and Bansuri flute, and Maia has a harp, two djembes, a sansula, Tibetan singing bowls and a violin (that has accumulated too many years of dust and is well overdue for reintegration!) We also have three incredible Alchemy Crystal bowls - Emerald, Japanese Charcoal and Laughing Buddha - a Raagini (digital tanpura) which provides a lovely background drone and an electronic tabla. We intend to continue to expand our family of instruments to include such things as, an ocean drum, a medicine drum, a swarmandel and a large gong...and anything else that inspires us.

If you are interested to know about samjjana's music journey, you will likely enjoy both Sahayak's share about his journey with the flutes and the hang, and Maia's share about her musical journey before the hang and since the hang.

The hang offers a more ethereal experience, while the Native American Indian flutes are grounding and embody the divinity of Mother Earth. These blend beautifully and powerfully when combined.
Our performances are intuitive/improvisation, though many times based on a foundation of some familiar rhythms and melodies we have been drawn to follow. instruments in unity We have recorded two CDs in Costa Rica. 'Elixir' has a mix of tracks, while 'Gently Now' is an even more deeply meditative and relaxing experience with a recurring theme. More details, including sound samples and how to purchase... our music recorded We returned in September from 12 months overseas. Musical highlights of our travels were playing in the Hall of Mirrors Temple, one of the Temples of Humankind at Damanhur (Italy), a visit to the hang makers in Bern, Switzerland (which is somewhat of a 'Mecca' for hang fans! ...see 'hanghaus visit' in the hang menu) and our Music Alchemy and 'A Celebration of Harmony' concerts in San Jose. After our respective life, music and spiritual journeys, Sahayak and I met after separate performances at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Brisbane (Australia) in June 2008. Samjjana has evolved out of our union, our music, people's response to our music and our mutual dedication in service to Spirit. We feel blessed to be on this shared journey that is unfolding and expanding with inner guidance, inspiration, beautiful new friends and miraculous synchronicity and flow. We have joy in knowing, from a deep and heartfelt place that we are where we are meant to be, doing what we are called to be doing. Our offerings are a gift to us also and we are full of gratitude.
Om paramar mainamar We also offer unique sound therapy sessions and sound workshops. In sound therapy sessions the focus is totally on the individual or group and what activities and sound vibrations are needed in that space in support of their wellbeing. In workshops we offer meditations with music; talks and techniques for meditation; vibrational experiences in meditation, and sounding and toning. These can be sessions/workshops we arrange directly or through the likes of meditation groups, therapy groups, yoga centres, retreat centres, events, festival programs, etc. More information. our music travels Sahayak and Maia performing in the rainforest at Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica. new beginnings
sound therapy songs from Spirit Maia feels very blessed to occasionally receive songs from Spirit, which are then often incorporated into performances. Some are simple mantras, some are mantras in three-part harmony. More recently, for the first time, a whole song was given. Would you like to hear it? |
